As a new teacher it is sometimes hard to swallow being told what is wrong with our instructional approach, what to do to fix it, and how to fix it. I think that sometimes we may not be open to literacy and math coaches for fear of being criticized or feeling incompetent. This is why I want to send props to Tina Hernandez, Diana Nason, and Judy Steinberg for working hard to help me develop my teaching skills while giving me a “voice” in the process. They have made me feel as though I am a member of a team by working with me to find solutions, as well as adapting their lessons to fit my teaching style. More importantly, they have helped me realize through “open discussion” that mistakes are part of the learning process. It is, after all, through trial and error that we come to find the best practices to meet our students’ needs (just some friendly advice I got from Tina)!

Thank you for all your support and guidance! Oh, and thank you Tina and Diana for modeling the criteria chart procedure. It helped me tremendously!
