Teacher Web Folders

Web folders are a good thing because they allow the easy transfer of documents/files between two or more computers. This is great for teachers who are roving and/or those who bring their laptops to work but are unable to connect to their classroom printer directly. This is also great for those who value their work and want to place it on Noble’s server for safekeeping. Below are the instructions for accessing your web folder.

Please Note: If you are interested in keeping the contents of your web folder private, please send me a message.

Instructions for Mac Users

  • While on the desktop, press Apple-K and enter the following in the window that emerges: http://noble.local/staff/yourname
  • Replace “yourname” with your first name initial followed by your last name (no space in between). For example, Jane Doe would be jdoe.
  • A gray icon should load on the desktop. That is your web folder, and it behaves like any other folder in your computer. To avoid having to do the above procedure each time you want to connect to your folder, I suggest you place the icon on your dock (next to the trash can). You do this by dragging the icon to the spot next to the trash can.

Instructions for Windows Users

  • While on the desktop open “My Network Places.”
  • Open “Add Network Place.”
  • Enter http://10.227.8.10/staff/yourname
  • Replace “yourname” with your first name initial followed by your last name (no space in between). For example, Jane Doe would be jdoe.
  • Click “Next” then “Finish.”
  • In the future, to access your web folder, open “My Network Places” and look for “yourname on 10.227.8.10”. If you would like to make your web folder more accessible, right-click on it and from the pop-up menu select “Send to… Desktop.” Now you should be able to see your web folder on your desktop for easy dragging and dropping of files.
